The Maker Behind The Wild

This is a small, female-owned business built on grit, passion, and a downright stubborn will to keep going. My wild hat journey started with a love for creating unique, handmade pieces - but the truth is, it was born out of a wreck that forced me to pull back the reins just to survive.

Let’s first get one thing straight - I’m no stranger to hard work or the wild life. I’ve spent years ranching, training horses, and country dancing ‘til my boots gave out. But everything changed the day I went cliff jumping and met shallow water the wrong way. The impact shattered both of my heels. My right foot didn’t just explode into pieces; there was a compound fracture and dislocated ankle to top it off. What followed was a long, brutal year of surgeries and learning how to navigate life from a wheelchair. Then came learning how to walk again in two giant boots.

There were major complications along the way - infections that my surgeon neglected to care for properly made its way into the bone. Suddenly the path I thought I was fighting my way back to wasn’t an option anymore. Then after multiple second opinions, the truth was unavoidable: in order to have any semblance of a life, my only real option was to amputate… And so, I did.

I am beyond thankful for my faith, friends, and family to help me endure this.

The leg I still have gives me trouble, and there’s more work to be done on it again soon. But slowing down wasn’t a choice - it was the only road left. Healing hasn’t been gentle or quick, so during this long haul, I needed something to keep me sharp - which is when I found custom hat-shaping. Training under Hat Masters, I realized pretty quick that this wasn’t just a pastime. I love creating hats for wild souls like me.

I may not be able to move like I used to, and I sure don’t work the same - but I can still ride (with a dang good lookin’ hat on and some extra hardware, of course)!

Leave Me Wild Hats” comes from learning the hard way - nothing and no one gets to hold me back again. So, if you’ve got that same fire in you, that need to be left wild, then you’re in the right place!

I appreciate ya’ll stopping by - it means more than you know, as prosthetics sure ain’t cheap! Ultimately, I hope you find a hat that speaks to your wild.
